I came to this blog as a blog refugee. I started out elsewhere and came here to avoid having to keep deleting rude comments I was receiving.

But you know what, I like my old blog so much better.

So I'm going back.

Care to come with me?

http://bainwen.blogspot.com

In about 20 minutes, Tirithien is going into his interview. He tends to show up early for things, so I imagine that at this particular moment he’s sitting in his car in the med school parking lot, trying to listen to the radio but squirming in excitement, trying not to wrinkle his extremely spiffy suit. He’ll be at the school all day, going to various informational meetings, tours, and of course the interviews themselves!

Meanwhile, I am at work. Just a normal day. Trying as hard as I can to concentrate on my work while simultaneously sending all my best vibes and prayers winging southward to Dayton.

Good luck, sweetie. I love you. :-)

Well, some of you who came over from my old blog may be a bit confused. Sometimes my blog will show anonymous comments, and sometimes it won't.

I swear I'm not deleting you! I'm trying to figure out how to get my comments to behave themselves, and not be virtual comments that are sometimes there and sometimes not. I hope I figure it out soon, though, because this is ANNOYING!

Who is Bainwen?

This was the very first entry on my old blog. Hmm, seems just slightly prescient, in retrospect! Guess my subconscious knew some things in July. :-)

My best friend gave me the name Bainwen. He told me it was derived from one of Tolkien's Elvish languages, and that it means "beautiful light." I'm not as sure this fits me as he seems to be, but he assures me that it's a direct translation of my real name, Jenny. (I'd always thought that Jennifer/Jenny was from Welsh and meant "white spirit" or "white lady," but apparently there's also an Irish derivation which speaks of beautiful light.

His Elvish translation of his own name is Tirithien, meaning "vigilant," and this does truly fit him.

Tirithien and Bainwen! Can't you imagine a ballad about them? The companions who stand close in some ancient moonlit wood, singing to each other softly, or speaking of anything and everything, or perhaps just resting together in silence? Defending each other against evil and attack? Sharing beautiful dreams?

It is a great comfort to know that while I do have to be out in the world and all its prosaic reality, that I see as Bainwen would see, think as Bainwen would think; and thus I may walk in poetry and beauty.

When I moved to LiveJournal, I had to add something to my screenname, since some unknown person had already claimed Bainwen as a name! I added Gilrana. It means "star-wanderer."

Well, here I am! It's a nice little blog. I think I will like it. More room to stretch, and more ways to avoid certain *ahem* assclowns.

I may migrate a few of my entries from the old blog over, but otherwise I think I will just post links to them.

So, welcome to my new blog home! Get comfy and take off your shoes. Let's tell some stories and sing some songs. All friends are welcome!
